The BackGround
Joyful Waters is built from over two decades of experience across Red Cross, YMCA, swim school environments in the U.S. and internationally, early childhood education, Montessori-based practice, and work within a NAEYC-accredited preschool setting.
Throughout my career, I have pursued ongoing professional development and diverse perspectives within aquatic instruction. At one point later in my career, I sought additional insight in infant aquatics through work with a UK-based aqua tutor, which contributed to a specific phase of my development.
Joyful Waters has since evolved through continued teaching, application, and refinement across all ages and settings.

Learn About Our Philosophy
Joyful Waters believes strong swimming begins with foundation, not force.
Through developmentally appropriate progression, breath control, body organization, emotional regulation, and trust-based instruction, swimmers of all ages learn how to work with the water instead of against it.
Joyful Waters Baby Program
First Splash & Aqua Explorers
First Splash and Aqua Explorers are developmentally appropriate aquatic programs designed to help babies and toddlers build a lifelong love and respect for the water through calm, intentional, and movement-based learning experiences.
While classes include songs, games, glides, bouncing, rolling, climbing, and playful exploration, every activity serves a purpose. Children develop foundational skills such as breath familiarity, floating awareness, body positioning, shoulder strength, climbing in and out, wall orientation, and vertical-to-horizontal movement patterns that support future swimming and safety skills.
Rather than relying on fear or distress-based methods, Joyful Waters focuses on confidence, repetition, emotional regulation, and body organization — helping children learn how to work with the water through experiences their development and nervous system can successfully process.
Child, Teen & Adult Beginner Program
Joyful Waters’ child, teen, and adult beginner program is built around the belief that many swimming struggles are not caused by a lack of effort, but by a lack of foundation.
Rather than rushing swimmers directly into strokes and distance, Joyful Waters focuses first on posture, breathing, balance, buoyancy, floating, gliding, and vertical-to-horizontal body organization. Swimmers learn how to work with the water instead of fighting against it.
This approach supports children, teens, fearful beginners, and adult learners through developmentally appropriate progression, purposeful drill work, nervous system regulation, and foundational movement training that builds confidence, control, and lifelong swimming success.

A Note from Neva Nicole
I’m releasing my newest book for free — for now.
Before I move it into full self-publication, I want real feedback from parents, swim instructors, and aquatic professionals who live this work every day.
This is your chance to read it early, share what resonates, and tell me what could be clearer, deeper, or more helpful. Your honest testimony will shape the final edition before it goes to print.
If you’d like to read the book and offer your thoughts: Download your free copy here: 6c1192fc-6e0b-4407-aa84-67fa60659c73
Then email me your feedback or short testimonial at Navigatingneva@gmail.com
Every comment helps refine this project — and your words may even appear (with permission) in the published version.
Thank you for being part of this movement toward Joyful, family-first water education.
